Form and seal cartons around grouped products at line speed

The wrap around case packers from Ferrum Group are end-of-line packaging machines designed to group products and form corrugated cartons directly around them. The system supports multiple packing principles, including drop-type, linear, side-feeding, and side-loading configurations, allowing you to adapt the packing process to your line layout and product flow.

Products such as cans, glass bottles, and PET bottles are first collated into the required pack pattern. A flat corrugated cardboard blank is then positioned, folded around the product group, and sealed using hot-melt glue. This wrap around principle creates compact, stable cartons suitable for transport, stacking, and palletising.

Depending on the configuration, the machine can operate at capacities ranging from 10 up to 80 cartons per minute, supporting both medium and high-speed beverage lines. Servo-driven motion systems ensure accurate positioning of products and cartons, enabling consistent pack quality and repeatable operation.

Different machine types are used depending on production requirements:

  • Drop-type packers load products vertically into the carton, suitable for stable containers and compact layouts
  • Linear packers process products in a straight flow, supporting high-speed applications up to 80 cartons/min
  • Side-feeding packers introduce products laterally, offering flexibility in line design and multi-lane handling
  • Side-loading packers combine compact footprint with stable case forming for high-throughput environments

The machines are equipped with PLC-based control systems and HMI interfaces, allowing centralised control and quick adjustments. Full servo control enables fast format changeovers, while integrated detection systems (such as bottle-missing control) prevent incorrect packing.

The use of 3-layer corrugated cardboard (≥3 mm) combined with controlled hot-melt application ensures strong case integrity and consistent sealing quality. The system integrates with upstream filling and labelling equipment and downstream palletising systems, forming a key step in automated beverage packaging lines.
